Inspiring future careers at the South Kesteven Skills Summit

As part of National Careers Week, Number 34 Consultancy attended the South Kesteven Skills Summit Careers Fair in Grantham. The event brought together local employers, training providers and organisations to speak with Year 10 students about the wide range of career opportunities available to them.

Events like this play an important role in helping young people explore their options. At 14 and 15 years old, many students are beginning to think about the subjects they will choose for their GCSEs and the paths they may want to take afterwards. Careers fairs give them the chance to hear directly from businesses and professionals about the many different routes available, including university, apprenticeships and vocational training.

Throughout the day, I spoke with a number of enthusiastic and curious students who were keen to talk about their ambitions for the future. It was fantastic to hear such a broad range of interests. Some students were passionate about pursuing careers in law or economics, while others were exploring opportunities in construction, catering and other hands-on industries.

These conversations are a great reminder that there is no single path to success. Young people today have access to a wide variety of career options and it is important that they are aware of what is available, particularly within their own region.

The event also highlighted the strength and diversity of businesses operating across the region. I was surrounded by a fantastic group of exhibitors representing industries including pharmaceuticals, construction, videography and interior design. Each organisation brought a different perspective and insight into their sector, helping students understand how varied the local job market really is.

For Number 34 Consultancy, it was a pleasure to talk to students about careers in marketing and the many different directions the industry can take you, from digital marketing and advertising through to events, branding and communications. Many students were surprised to learn just how broad the marketing profession can be.

A huge thank you to the organisers of the South Kesteven Skills Summit for putting together such a well-attended and valuable event. Giving young people the opportunity to speak with local employers is incredibly important and helps them see the many possibilities that exist beyond the classroom.

We wish all the students we met the very best of luck as they continue to explore their future career paths.
